Burial program out for Nyanjura’s brother and boda rider gunned down in Ntinda robbery

Kampala, (UG):- Kampala Deputy Lord Mayor, Ms Doreen Nyanjura has announced that her young brother Tugume Albert Cook who was shot and killed by armed thugs in Ntinda will be buried, Sunday, November 24, in Kyenjojo District, western Uganda.

The 33-year-old was gunned down at around 8 pm on Thursday evening as he closed the mobile money shop he operated along Central Road in Ntinda-Kigoowa, a Kampala urban suburb before thugs fled off with unspecified sums of money, his mobile money agent lines and phones, and other valuables.

The thugs also shot and injured one Barnabas Sabiiti, 30, the boda boda rider who attempted to stop them from abducting Tugume, the former succumbing to injuries at Mulago National Referral Hospital where he had been rushed for medication.

While police were yet to provide substantial updates on the leads to the suspected assailants, Nyanjura Friday announced a tentative funeral program for the late Tugume and the slain boda boda cyclist as the bereaved families continue to mourn their own.

“We shall have a church service today Friday 2:00 PM at St Luke Ntinda and burial will be on Sunday 24th in Nyamabuga, Bugaaki Mwenge,” Nyanjura said in a social media post on her X account on Friday at midday.

“Barnabas Sabiiti (Who tempted to save our brother) will be buried tomorrow Saturday 23rd in Mitooma,” she added.

The Police Deputy Spokesperson in Kampala Metropolitan, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Friday confirmed the incident and said police were actively investigating the case of aggravated robbery and a manhunt for the runaway assailants is already ongoing.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Mr Tugume Albert and Barnabas during this difficult time. The Kampala Metropolitan Police remains committed to bringing the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice,” ASP Owoyesigyire said.

“We urge members of the public with any information that could assist in the investigation to come forward,” he concluded in a Friday police statement on the fatal shooting.
