Iganga, (UG):- The Chairman of Uganda Muslim Supreme Council Al-hajj Prof. Dr Muhamadi Lubega Kisambira has revealed that his institution Lubega Institute of Nursing and Health Professionals is set to soon transform into a university after eight years of skilling youths in the Busoga region.
According to Dr Lubega, the national body responsible for licensing higher Institutes has since visited the Institute to assess its status to award it an operational license at the University status.
“I have one dream and In Shaa Allah it may come to pass this January, that this will no longer be Lubega Institute of Nursing and Health Professionals but Lubega University of Nursing. The National Council for Higher Education has been here, they spent four days here, we have applied and we leave the rest to Allah,” Dr. Lubega said as the institute marked its 8th anniversary on Saturday.
Lubega, who is also the first deputy Prime Minister for Busoga Kingdom revealed how the school started on a small piece of land with only eighty students and has been able to develop it, now sitting on acres of land with a good population of learners.
“I want to confess that since this school started eight years ago, we have produced over 2,000 Nurses or Midwives serving humanity, saving lives and promoting health. We would be wrong therefore for a day like this we didn’t come here to humble ourselves and thank Allah for that milestone,” he said.
The Assistant to the Mufti Busoga Muslim region Sheikh Dr. Muhammad Hussein Bowa commended Dr Lubega for their tremendous effort to build the nursing sector in the region, Uganda and beyond.
The Assistant to the Mufti in his message delivered by the office public relations officer Sheikh Muhammad Bulo, said a number of medics have been produced by the mighty Institute and serving in different corners of the world.
“I have learnt from the Proprietor that over 2,000 nurses and midwives have been produced by this institute ever since it started and now eight years down the road. This is a great job done by this institute and wherever I go I find products of this Institute giving service to the people,” Sheikh Bulo said during the commissioning students ahead of their final exams at the eighth Institute’s anniversary on Saturday.
The religious leaders asked the students to put all their trust in the Lord and avoid any form of examination malpractice, adding that God will always stand with someone who has committed him/ herself to stay in school for a season and for a reason.
At the function, the Catholic Church fraternity was led by the Parish Priest of Namilari parish, the Church of Uganda by the vicar of Buseyi parish Rev Cap Simon Isooba and the elder Buseyi SDA church by Mr. Ivulungo Methuselah while Pr.
