Pallisa, (UG):- The program for the much-anticipated youth conference at St Benedict Opadoi Catholic Church in Chelekura parish, Tororo Archdiocese slated for 10-12 December 2024 is in high gear despite a few inequities according to the organizers.

Abraham Abongosi the Chairperson organizing committee told DailyExpress on Sunday they are facing a budget deficit, especially the hire of the public address system and its fuel for the three days which is set to cost Shs 350,000 daily.

Abongosi said the 300 youth who have confirmed attendance following rooted lists from their respective zonal leaders are to pay 10,000 for refreshments and feeding for the three days.

“The youth depend on the courtesy of their parents and as we have a budget of Shs5.8m what we have so far realized as by Saturday morning was 1.2m. So I request well-wishers to come and support us”, he said.

Mr Gabriel Mujale the spokesperson of the organizing committee said the intention of the conference is to bring the youth together and refocus them on the commitment of serving God as clearly laid in the Bible.

Mujale explained that they always fix the timetable of the conference in December so as not to leave out our brothers and sisters who are students who have been at various schools.

He added; “The only person who has devoted himself to supporting our mission is Hon. David Ochwa the Agule county member of parliament and I am sure he will give us the just like he did to the youth of Kamuge Olinga Catholic parish.”

When reached out, MP Ochwa said when it comes to church programs he puts all his weight there bearing in mind that he is also a candidate who needs a vacancy in heaven.

“We can struggle for earthly things but what is important is to compose ourselves to be prepared for judgement after. Yes, it is true I gave Kamuge Olinga Catholic parish one million bon their closing day as my counterpart Hon. Richard Oseku of Kibale county was in Nigeria on government program and requested me to represent him” Hon Ochwa said.

As leaders, Ochwa said they don’t cross to other areas of jurisdiction unless they’re formally invited or delegated. “I honestly didn’t know that some churches in Agule County subscribe to Kamuge Olinga Catholic parish. I gave the youth 1,500 seedlings to improve the environment in their churches “, he said.

According to Hon Ochwa, such youth conferences are good because they shape the young generation and instil spiritual and good social values in them.

Jane Amuron encouraged parents to allow the girls to attend this very important conference because is the current list the number of girls is just a third. Amuron said the topics prepared target girls who are future mothers and pillars of the church.

Anna Margaret Agwang one of the girls said their parents mistake that when girls go to church boys take advantage to lure them into sexual acts

“These conferences are strictly monitored more than even the way we are at home so I beg to add my voice to Amuron and encourage parents to release their daughters”, Agwang said.
