Jinja, (UG):- Traffic on Jinja-Kampala highway has been diverted with alternative routes provided as Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) starts repairing the road section at Mabira forest.
In a statement issued Monday, November 25, Traffic Police Spokesperson SP Michael Kananura said effective Tuesday, November 26 at 6:00 am to facilitate road works along the road until December 07 when the repair works are expected to finish.
According to Kananura, motorists from Kampala heading to Jinja side are advised to divert from Wantoni in Mukono to Kisoga through Nyenga to Jinja.
“Police along with a team from UNRA will be present to guide traffic movement & ensure the smooth execution of the road works. We appeal to all motorists to adhere to traffic officers’ directives, exercise utmost discipline & patience during the road works,” SP Kananura added in a Monday evening statement.
He also appealed to all road users to cooperate with the traffic police. “Your cooperation & understanding are greatly appreciated,” he said.
The road repairs come on the heels of public outcry over the poor state of the main highway which connects the Capital to the Eastern side of the country and Kenya.
The section had been riddled with potholes affecting traffic movement with motorists gridlocked for almost four hours every day.
“The maintenance works aim to enhance the road’s surface condition to ensure safety and comfort for all road users,” UNRA spokesperson, Mr Allan Ssempebwa revealed in a media interview last week.
