Uganda Cranes defender Elio Capradossi has secured a move to Italian Serie B club AS Cittadella on a short-term contract, marking the next chapter in his career following a brief period without a club.

The 28-year-old Italian-born international, who made an impressive debut for the Uganda Cranes earlier this year, has been a free agent since parting ways with AC Lecco earlier in 2024.

His move to Cittadella provides him with an opportunity to rebuild his career in Italy’s second tier, where he will look to regain match fitness and secure a more permanent future in the league.

Capradossi’s football journey has been largely rooted in Italy, where he has spent the entirety of his professional career.

He rose through the ranks of AS Roma’s youth system before making his debut with the senior team. Over the years, Capradossi has played for several clubs, including Spezia, Bari, SPAL, Lecco, and Cagliari. His experience in Italy’s top leagues, Serie A and Serie B, adds depth to his game and will be valuable for his new club.

Despite being born in Entebbe to an Italian father and a Congolese mother, Capradossi moved to Italy at a young age and grew up in the country’s footballing system.

Although he represented Italy at youth levels up to the U21s, his international career took a new turn this year when he received his first senior cap for the Uganda Cranes in July, impressing during the team’s 2-0 win over Botswana.

Capradossi’s absence from the Uganda squad for the recent international fixtures against South Africa and Congo, however, was due to his lack of a club, with national team coach Paul Put opting not to call him up.

This move to Cittadella will likely put him back in the international spotlight, as the Cranes will no doubt be keeping an eye on his performances in Serie B.
