Finance Trust Bank Manager, Accountant remanded over theft of PDM funds

Kamuli, (UG):- The bank manager and accountant of Finance Trust Bank in Kamuli District have been charged and remanded to Kamuli Prison over misappropriation of Parish Development Model (PDM) funds.

The duo who include Wambi Charles and Leticia Nakimuli respectively today (Wednesday) appeared before the Chief Magistrates Court and were charged with theft before being sent on remand until Thursday, 28th November, when they will return to court for further mention of their court.

State Prosecution told court that Wambi and Nakimuli allegedly committed the offence by making deductions from PDM funds during the process of disbursement to the accounts of the beneficiaries.

Investigations indicate that over 50 beneficiaries were affected as they received less funds against the set PDM guidelines.

They were arrested early this month and have been on police bond until today when the file was ready for Court.

Crackdown on PDM funds theft

The development comes in the wake of a stern directive issued by President Museveni last week in which he ordered security authorities to deny bail to any government worker found guilty of mishandling the PDM funds.

“I have received reports from ISO about individuals stealing PDM money. Some were arrested but given police bonds,” the President stated during his recent PDM tour in eastern Uganda, adding; “I now direct the RPCs, no more police bonds for anyone who has stolen PDM or Emyooga money. If you give a police bond, I will ‘bond’ you myself.”

The President also criticised the practice of deducting bank charges from PDM funds before they reach beneficiaries. “I demand that the Ministry of Finance covers all bank charges. Recipients must receive their full amount, no deductions, no additions,” he declared.
