Kampala, (UG):- President Museveni will in the first week of December visit the Karamoja sub-region in North-eastern Uganda as he continues his countrywide assessment tours on the performance of the Parish Development Model (PDM) wealth creation programme among the citizens.
The development was Wednesday confirmed by the Deputy Press Secretary to H.E the President, Hajji Kirunda Faruk in a social media post via his official X handle.
“The Presidential Press Unit (PPU) informs the General Public that the President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E Gen. (Rtd). Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will be in Karamoja Sub-Region from December 3rd to 5th, 2024, in continuation of his Parish Development Model (PDM) performance assessment tour,” the notice posted by Hajj Kirunda read on Wednesday.
“During the tour, H.E. the President will visit some beneficiaries, meet stakeholders including various categories of leaders and technical staff, and address a public rally in Kotido District,” the statement added.
The emphasis of the assessment tours according to the Presidency Unit is the need to emphasize the Four-Acre Model, Parish Development Model, Emyooga and other Government livelihood Programmes as proven avenues for wealth creation among the wanainchi.
Museveni’s visit to Karamoja subregion comes just days after the completion of his performance assessment tour on PDM and wealth creation in the Teso sub-region where he issued a stern directive to security authorities to deny bail to any government worker found guilty of mishandling the PDM.
“I have received reports from ISO about individuals stealing PDM money. Some were arrested but given police bonds,” the President stated, adding; “I now direct the RPCs, no more police bonds for anyone who has stolen PDM or Emyooga money. If you give a police bond, I will ‘bond’ you myself.”
During the Teso region tour, President Museveni also warned that such leniency undermines efforts to defend the village economy and vowed to engage the Chief Justice to put an end to these practices.
“This money is for transforming communities. If someone steals it, refunding alone is not enough, you must refund and also go to jail. Was it given to you as a gift?” he asked rhetorically.
“PDM and Emyooga funds are critical to Uganda’s development and must be protected at all costs. No one should play games with this money. We are transforming lives, and we won’t allow anyone to derail that mission,” the President emphasized.
