Several arrested as police crackdown on criminality ahead of festive season

Kampala, (UG):- The Territorial Police in Kampala Metropolitan has intensified intelligence-driven operations against increasing criminality and abuse of drugs in the suburbs of Kampala and neighbouring areas.

The initial crackdown carried out on Tuesday, November 26, led to the arrest of 19 suspects in known crime hotspots such as Kitintale, Portbell, Luzira, Kifuufu, and other areas in the Gulf.

According to KMP Spokesperson, Mr. Patrick Onyango, “These areas have long been identified for their high levels of criminal activity, including the trade and smoking of marijuana, burglaries, and various thefts.”

The operations in these areas, he said, aimed to disrupt these illegal activities and restore safety for the communities.

Additionally, further operations targeted other areas including, Kira Division where 30 suspects were arrested for possession of opium, in Mukono 47 suspects were arrested for possession of marijuana and other crimes while at Central Police Station Kampala 20 suspects were arrested for engaging in various criminal activities.

“The operations were successful, with exhibits recovered and suspects charged and detained pending prosecution,” Onyango stressed.

He emphasized the police’s commitment to maintaining law and order, especially during the upcoming festive season, saying; “The police aim to maintain public safety and order, especially during the upcoming Christmas festival,” Onyango said.
