Kampala, (UG):- Pope Francis IV has appointed Rev Fr Dr Constantine Rupiny as the new Bishop of Nebbi Catholic Diocese. He comes in to fill the void left by Archbishop Raphael P’mony Wokorach who was elevated to the Gulu Archdiocese early this year.
“I am thrilled to announce the appointment of Rev Fr Dr Constantine Rupiny as the new Bishop of Nebbi Catholic Diocese,” Rupiny’s predecessor, Wokorach announced on Tuesday sending the congregation into ululations and jubilations.
“This is a momentous occasion for our diocese, and we welcome Bishop Rupiny with open arms,” he added.
Who is Bishop Rupiny
Constantine Rupiny, born on November 10, 1974, in Parombo, Nebbi Diocese, has had a distinguished academic and priestly career.
He completed his philosophical studies at the Uganda Martyrs’ National Major Seminary in Alokolum and his theological studies at St. Mary’s National Major Seminary in Ggaba.
He also obtained a Licentiate in Philosophy at the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome and a Doctorate in Dogmatic Theology at the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw, Poland.
Ordained a priest on August 28, 2004, Rupiny previously served as Parish Vicar of Kango (2004-2005); Parish Priest of Akanyo (2005-2007); Formator and Professor at the Uganda Martyrs’ National Major Seminary in Alokolum (2007-2009, and 2011-2018).
He also served as Vice President of the Presbyteral Council of Nebbi (2017-2018); and Vice Rector of the Uganda Martyrs’ National Major Seminary in Alokolum (January-September 2023).
From September 2023, he served as Rector of Alokulum to date.
Rupiny becomes the fifth Bishop of the Nebbi Catholic Diocese, which was erected in 1996 by Pope John Paul II. His installation at Nebbi Catholic Diocese is expected to take place in the coming weeks according to Archbishop Wokorach.
