TORORO, (UG):- The Territorial Police in Tororo Saturday responded to a devastating accident that occurred on November 30, 2025, at approximately 5:00 AM at Akapa, just 100 meters from the Osia Road junction along the Tororo-Jinja highway.
The incident involved multiple vehicles leaving the local community in shock featured a white Scania truck, registration UBE 764R/UAW 758G, and two Faw trucks, KDQ 830X/ZH 5300 and KDL 865S/ZH 1010, all belonging to Tahmeed Company.
Police identified the deceased as Simon Musyoka Mulwa, the driver of the KDQ 830X/ZH 5300 while the driver of the Scania truck is still at large.
Witnesses report that the Scania truck was travelling from Kampala towards Tororo Cement Industries to load cement. Upon reaching the Akapa area, the driver allegedly struck the KDL 865S/ZH 1010 from behind.
This collision caused the Scania driver to lose control, veering into the oncoming lane where he collided head-on with the KDQ 830X/ZH 5300. The impact was so severe that it forced the Faw truck into a nearby trench, landing on its side with its tyres facing upward. Tragically, Simon Musyoka Mulwa died at the scene.
Initial reports suggest that the driver of the Scania truck, suspected of causing the accident, sustained minor injuries. However, by the time police arrived at the crash site, he had fled the scene, prompting an investigation into his whereabouts.
“Both Faw trucks involved in the crash have been towed to the Tororo Central Police Station yard, where they will undergo inspection pending further inquiries. Preliminary investigations attribute the cause of the accident to careless driving by the Scania truck’s driver, resulting in a sequence of collisions described as a head-to-tail and then head-on collision.” Confirmed IP Mugwe Johnson Moses the Acting Public Relations Officer Bukedi South Region.
The Tororo District Traffic Department, led by the District Traffic Officer (DTO), responded promptly to the incident. Officers documented the crash scene, and a fire rescue team was deployed to assist.
Due to the severity of the crash, they had to dismantle the cabin of the KDQ 830X/ZH 5300 to retrieve the deceased’s body, which had become trapped.
Following the recovery, the body of Simon Musyoka Mulwa was transported to Tororo Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination. Police medical forms were issued for both the deceased and the other victims involved in the incident.
