Iganga, (UG):- The Inspector of schools in charge of Early Childhood Development (ECD) for Iganga District, Ms. Wabaire Harriet has asked parents to create time for their children during holidays in order to guide them in the right ways.
Ms Wabaire says children need to be guided to adopt good morals in society which can cause them to be good citizens in future. She also asked all parents and respective guardians to create time for their children during the holidays and nurture good citizens.
Speaking as a Chief Guest at the function of breaking for holidays and commissioning of 117 Top nursery pupils on Saturday at Hillside Ways Nursery and Primary School, Ms Wabaire argued that parents are engaging in businesses and works which have created a gap between them and their children.
“These are young children and they copy whatever they see us doing. We should not get involved in domestic violence before our children, and keep the children well during holidays. You need to sit with your children and speak to them instead of spending all the time outside in business and other engagements,” Ms. Wabaire said.
She says that child growth and development starts from nursery age and she asked parents to take responsibility for nurturing their children, citing that teachers will supplement the work done by parents in producing good children.
“Show your children love as you guide them and always listen to them because they also have issues. Children need to grow with parental love and God-fearing citizens who will serve the country without leakages,” She said before advising parents to feed their children well and commending the school for offering holistic education.
The school director Mr Mwondha Hassan commended parents for taking up their responsibilities of educating their children. He, however, asked both parents to be involved in their children’s education and condemned some mothers for squeezing their husbands to pay extra money for fees.
“I urge all parents to be responsible in educating children. As opposed to previous times, these days men are paying fees without resistance but the challenge is with some women who charge them more than what is paid at school,” Mr. Mwondha said, adding that this vice can result in domestic violence.
He commended the government of Uganda for embracing services by private schools and he pledged to promote holistic education.
During the course of the day, pupils entertained parents with a number of talents including singing, dancing, debating, and drama, among others.
