Sheema, (UG):- President Museveni’s aide and Private Press Secretary, Ms Carol Kembabazi has delivered 300 beehives to farmers in Rushozi model village, Sheema District to reaffirm the government’s commitment to grassroots economic empowerment and poverty alleviation in Uganda.
Addressing an eager audience in Rushozi, Carol also fondly referred to as Chief Muzukulu emphasized the transformative potential of the distributed beehives, urging the community to embrace the initiative fully. “These beehives are more than just tools; they are a pathway to economic independence and resilience for every household here,” she stated passionately.
Carol reiterated the government’s commitment to improving livelihoods and helping everyone fight poverty and clarified the procedural steps and criteria for selecting the beneficiaries, addressing claims that only the wealthy are considered.
“The beneficiaries are selected directly from the Local Council, who through an established committee analyze and sieve out the intended beneficiaries, those considered to be in dire poverty and deserving of uplifting,” Carol stated, before handing over the 300 300 beehives were handed over to 20 individuals, each receiving 15 hives.
“Through such programs, Sheema District is becoming a beacon of progress and a model for other communities across the country,” she stressed. “The unity and determination here serve as a testament to what can be achieved when leadership is people-centred and visionary.”
Ms Josephine Kiconco, the Coordinator of the Poverty Alleviation Department (PAD) in Western Uganda, who represented the Senior Presidential Advisor on Poverty Alleviation Ms. Joan Kakwenzire emphasized that; “Beekeeping is not only an economic activity but it is also a source of income and employment.”
The beehive distribution program is part of a broader government strategy to bolster rural livelihoods and stimulate economic activity at the community level. By fostering a culture of productivity and innovation, the initiative aims to create lasting impacts on household incomes while aligning with Uganda’s vision for sustainable development.
Carol’s leadership in this effort has been hailed as exemplary, embodying the ethos of servant governance. Her hands-on approach and direct engagement with local communities continue to inspire confidence and participation among residents.
Under her stewardship, the people of Rushozi have been mobilized to view the beehives not just as government handouts but as catalysts for self-reliance and growth.
The beehive project is just one of many interventions designed to empower rural communities under President Museveni’s poverty alleviation agenda. With continued support from leaders like Chief Muzukulu, Rushozi is poised to become a shining example of how targeted grassroots initiatives can drive socio-economic transformation.
