Mbale, (UG):- Both Makerere University and the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) have invited the Bamasaba cultural leader, His Highness Jude Mike Mudoma, to their upcoming events.
This was revealed by the spokesperson of the Bamasaba Cultural Institution, Mr. Steven Masiga.
Mr. Masiga shared with DailyExpress, that the Vice-Chancellor of the Islamic University in Uganda, Associate Prof. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, had invited the Umukuka to IUIU’s 33rd graduation ceremony. The event is scheduled to take place on December 14 at the main campus in Mbale.
In the invitation letter addressed to His Highness, Prof. Gyagenda extended the university’s salutations, saying, “Assalam alaikum warahmatullah wabarakatuh, Your Highness” (the English equivalent of “Peace be upon you, Your Highness”). He further wrote:
“I convey to you warm greetings and best wishes from the Islamic University in Uganda. I am writing to inform you of our upcoming graduation and to take this singular honor to invite you to our graduation ceremony as the cultural representative of your people, the Bamasaba. Please accept the assurances of our highest consideration and esteem.”
Prof. Gyagenda concluded the letter by emphasizing the honor of having the Umukuka witness the event.
Mr. Masiga, speaking on behalf of the Bamasaba Cultural Institution, remarked, “All land in Masabaland belongs to the Umukuka. The Islamic University has done the right thing by inviting the Umukuka to witness those who have been studying on his land. Other universities and learning institutions must borrow a cue from the Islamic University.”
Meanwhile, Makerere University has also extended an invitation to the Bamasaba cultural leader to attend the International Conference on Geographical Sciences for Resilience, Communities, Ecosystems, and Livelihoods. The conference will be held at Hotel Africana in Kampala.
The invitation, confirmed by Mr Masiga, was extended through the Principal of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Prof. Yazidhi Bamutaze who invited the Umukuka as a keynote speaker alongside other high-level dignitaries, including the Minister of State for Environment, Hon. Beatrice Anywar.
