Kakumiro, (UG):- The Territorial Police in Kakumiro District, western Uganda have recovered three cows suspected to have been stolen, following a tip-off from a vigilant resident.
The operation, according to Albertine Region Police spokesperson Mr Julius Allan Hakiza also led to the impounding of a Toyota Super Custom vehicle, registration number UBD 356B, which was being used to transport the animals.
Hakiza explained that the vehicle was intercepted by police along the Hoima road, between Kakindu and Kihuna.
“Upon being stopped, the occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene, leaving behind the cows. Tragically, one of the animals was found dead.
During the search of the vehicle, police discovered documents indicating that the cows may have been transported from Kasangati in Wakiso District yet initial investigations showed that the animals were stolen from Butema Sub-county in Hoima District.
He said efforts to track down the suspects and urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to help combat the rising cases of cattle theft in the region
“We are collaborating with the local community to identify the rightful owner of the animals,” Hakiza concluded.
