Kaliro, (UG):- The Territorial Police in Kaliro District have arrested the LC 1 chairman of Budini Nyanza Zone and 3 other residents to aid in investigating the alleged murder by arson of a 64-year-old man, his wife and son on Monday morning.
The suspects, identified as Wangule Abdu 62 the chairman, Waiswa Simon 40, Kiige Willy 64, and Njagi lsma 20 years old are accused of torching down the house containing the deceased identified as Kaiga Muhammad, wife not identified and Swagga Amuza 26, all residents of Budini Nyanza zone, Kaliro town council.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident stemmed from a long-standing land dispute. On the morning of the attack, Kaiga instructed his son, Swagga, to clear part of a mango garden on the contested land. He was allegedly attacked by a group of residents from the same area.
“Swagga Amuza ran back to his father’s home for safety, but the mob pursued him,” a police source said, adding that the mob reportedly locked Kaiga and his family inside their house before setting it on fire.
Upon receiving the report, police officers from Kaliro Central Police Station, led by the District Police Commander (DPC), rushed to the scene and managed to extinguish the fire, but the three victims had already perished.
Their bodies were conveyed to Bumanya H/C IV mortuary for postmortem as further inquiries proceed to establish more facts.
