Iganga, (UG):- Iganga General Hospital has received five wheelchairs and five stretchers in support to boost healthcare services in one of Busoga’s busy health facilities working on a large number of patients from across the region.
The development comes after the December 1, 2024 marathon that was organized by the Iganga Healthcare Development Association to solicit money for buying some items that support healthcare service delivery in Iganga government health facilities.
This was in fulfilment of one of the pledges made by the chief runner Capt George Mike Mukula to support the facility of Iganga General Hospital and other facilities in the district citing their tremendous support to a number of people given its geographical location on the highway.
Mukula who is also the National Vice Chairperson for NRM Eastern Region pledged wheelchairs and stretchers for PWDs, which items were delivered on Saturday, December 07, 2024.
While receiving the assortments, Hajj Walubi Abubakar, the Patron of the association and NRM chairperson for Iganga District commended Capt Mukula for fulfilling the pledge, adding that he has also pledged to work with the GM sugar factory to paint the facility and soon deliver 50 hospital mattresses that he pledged.
“GM Sugar has confirmed to paint Iganga General Hospital and they will soon visit the facility to assess what is needed for the work and when to start,” Hajji Walubi said, urging all politicians to use all their contacts to lobby for the community other than looking at the exercise only with a political eye.
The chairperson of Iganga Healthcare Development Association Mr. Bulagala Mawazi has told DailyExpress that the hospital will retain three chairs as others will be given to other health facilities in the district.
The function was attended by among others; the local leaders, hospital administrator Mr Deo Wakabi, deputy RDC Kato Dauda and the Iganga RDC Hajji Wandera Sadala who asked people in the hospital to use the assortments well to ensure their durability adding that they have come at the right time when there is scarcity in the facility.
“The need was there since this facility was having one functioning wheelchair, but still they are not enough. We ask other people out there not only to wait for donors but we can also do something to support the health sector in the district,” Hajji Wandera said.
