Jinja, (UG):- The Isebantu Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Gabula Nadiope IV, has been named a UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador to lead the fight against teenage pregnancy in Busoga and Uganda.
The campaign, dubbed Abasadha Ne’Mpango (Men Are the Pillars), focuses on addressing root causes such as poverty, absentee parenting, and limited access to reproductive health services, while involving men and boys in the solution.
Announced by Owekitiibwa Haji Osman Ahmed Noor, the 2nd Deputy Prime Minister of Busoga Kingdom, during a radio talk show on Baba FM, the appointment aligns with UNAIDS’ mission to achieve zero new HIV infections and other related goals.
The initiative will be supported by UNAIDS and 11 UN agencies, including UNICEF, WHO, and UNFPA, working together to tackle poverty, education gaps, and harmful social norms.
The official launch will take place on December 13, 2024, at the Busoga Kingdom Headquarters, coinciding with Uganda’s celebration of International Men’s Day.
The event, organized in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development, will also provide free medical services such as TB screening, HIV counselling, and prostate cancer checks.
The Kyabazinga’s Kyabazinga Initiatives (KI) will lead the campaign, established to drive development in Busoga through strategic interventions, and a broader public awareness campaign will follow early next year to engage communities further.
Additionally, the Kyabazinga will celebrate his 36th birthday with a royal banquet on December 14 and the MTN Busoga Masaza Cup Final on December 15, featuring a match between Butembe and Bukono at Bugembe Stadium, capped by a friendly match between Busoga United FC and the Uganda Cranes.
Owekitiibwa Haji Osman Ahmed Noor urged the public to attend the MTN BUSOGA Masaza Cup Final on December 15th. “I urge all people of Busoga to join us at Kyabazinga Stadium Bugembe for this historic match as we celebrate not only the Kyabazinga’s birthday but also the strength and unity of Busoga through sports,” he said.
Entrance is 5000 cash and 2000 via MTN momo pay.
