Errant driver arrested over reckless driving, illegal sirens on Kampala-Masaka highway

Mpigi, (UG):- The Territorial Police in Mpigi District are holding in custody and errant driver Arrested Wednesday morning over reckless driving, including speeding and dangerous overtaking on the Kampala-Masaka highway.

The driver who was reportedly traveling along the same route as the Director of Traffic & Road Safety, was ordered to stop but chose to defy the officers’ orders and became increasingly aggressive.

The Spokesperson, SP Michael Kananura, in a statement confirming the incident notes that when the situation escalated when the driver ignored the authority of the officers and continued driving erratically.

“The driver failed to comply with the lawful instructions to stop, forcing our officers to act swiftly to intercept the vehicle,” Kananura said.

He added that the driver was eventually intercepted at a checkpoint in Kyabadaza, where inspections revealed an expired permit, illegal sirens, and modified lights.

He has since been charged & is detained at Mpigi Police Station, pending a court appearance.

“This incident highlights the growing concern over reckless driving, which puts not only the driver’s life at risk but also endangers other road users,” Kananura emphasized, adding; “We are committed to ensuring that all road users comply with traffic laws, and this behavior will not be tolerated.”

Police urged all motorists and road users to be responsible, exercise caution, and respect traffic regulations for the safety of everyone on the road. “We call on all drivers to exercise courtesy and responsibility as they travel.”
