Kamuli witchdoctor sentenced to 8 years over illegal possession of wildlife species, human bones

Kamuli, (UG):- Kamuli Chief Magistrates Court has sentenced a 39-year-old native doctor to 8 years in prison over illegal possession of wildlife-protected species and human body remains.

Jjajja Kasimba Yeko, a resident of Bukapere Zone, Kasoigo Ward, Northern Division, Kamuli Municipality was arrested after intelligence reports on suspicion that he had illegal items in his shrine.

A formal report made by Mugarura Ali, the Head of Anti-sacrifice and Anti-illegal use of Wildlife Species in Uganda Wetlands and Resource Conservation Organisation implicated Jajja Yeko in the alleged crimes.

According to the report, it is alleged that on 5th December 2024 at around 1400/c up to 06:00 PM, an operation was conducted in the Bukapere zone, and in the shrine of Jajja Yeko many items of wildlife including, Skins, animal hones, suspected human bones, birds were recovered.

The accused was arrested and detained at Kamuli Central Police Station to aid in investigations. Upon completion of inquiries, the suspect was produced to Kamuli Chief Magistrate’s court on 10/12/2024 and remanded until 11/12/2024 when he was brought back to Court and pleaded guilty to the charges.

Subsequently, the court convicted him of the charges and sentenced him to 8 years imprisonment.
