Kiryandongo, (UG):- The National Defense College of Uganda has held community barazas in Kiryandongo District to ascertain the security situation and status of implementation of the various government programs.

The barazas were held in Bweyale town council and Kalwala village of Kiryandongo sub-county.

While addressing the community, Brigadier General Keffa Nangeso who led the delegation informed the community that the college was conducting research on security and government service delivery through interacting with the citizens.

Nangeso added that there was a need to compare the theory and practice learnt by the officers at the National Defense College.

Richard Abola, the LCI Chairman of Bweyale Cell said Bweyale’s high population with a variety of tribes is posing a security threat.

He added that the current police manpower is inadequate to manage the population and therefore called for more deployment of police officers and the establishment of a spacious police station.

Zubair Mawa one of the residents in Bweyale said the thugs were taking advantage of the inadequate police manpower to terrorize the people. Mawa also pledged to mobilize the community to provide land for establishment of a police barracks.

In order to, reinforce the security, Retired Sergeant Vincent Idraku the Chairperson Veterans Association called upon the government to consider engaging the registered veterans in Kiryandongo to assist police.

“I call upon the security committee to engage the veterans so as to support the police. We have 482 registered veterans who are idle and on government payroll,” said Idraku.

Bweyale Town Council has been registering a number of theft and burglary cases which have threatened the area’s security.

The findings from the engagement between the National Defense College and the communities will help in planning for the improvement of security and service delivery in Kiryandongo District and Uganda at large.
