Victoria University partners with Somalia’s Himilo to offer joint postgraduate programmes

Kampala, (UG):- Uganda’s leading transformational education institution, Victoria University Kampala has entered into a groundbreaking partnership with Somalia’s Himilo University marking a new chapter in higher education for the region.

This collaboration, sealed last week at VU’s main campus in Kampala, will see the introduction of joint postgraduate programs designed to address critical academic and professional needs across various disciplines.

The partnership, DailyExpress understands, is set to combine the academic resources and expertise of Victoria University with the local infrastructure and contextual understanding of Himilo University to deliver world-class education.

Under this arrangement, three key faculties Health Sciences, Science and Technology, and Humanities and Social Sciences will offer a total of 11 postgraduate programs tailored to equip students with skills for today’s dynamic global environment.

Speaking at the launch of the partnership, Victoria University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Lawrence Muganga, hailed this as a landmark achievement in the institution’s mission to redefine education across Africa.

“This partnership underscores our commitment to providing transformative education and extending our reach across borders,” Muganga stated. “Together with Himilo University, we are poised to empower students with the skills and knowledge to excel in today’s competitive world.”

On his part, Dr Abdikarin Adan Hussein, Rector of Himilo University, echoed Muganga’s sentiments, highlighting the benefits for Somali students. “Collaborating with Victoria University creates an opportunity for our students to access internationally recognized programs while staying in Somalia,” he said.

“This partnership brings us closer to our goal of providing quality education that meets global standards.”

This partnership according to the two parties aims to deliver world-class education to students in Somalia and the region, leveraging the academic resources of Victoria University and the local expertise and infrastructure of Himilo University.

The Programs that will be offered under the partnership include;

  • Faculty of Health Sciences
    1. Master of Science in Sexual and Reproductive Health
    2. Master of Science in Global Health Nutrition
    3. Master of Science in Health Service Management
    4. Master of Science in Public Health
  • Faculty of Science and Technology
    1. Master of Science in Big Data Analytics
    2. Master of Science in Cyber Security
    3. Master of Science in Computer Science
    4. Master of Science in Information Technology
  • Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
    1. Master of Arts in Public Administration and Management
    2. Master of Arts in Diplomacy & Global Studies
    3. Master of Educational Administration and Management

Victoria University’s joint initiative with Himilo University is expected to inspire further collaborations in the region, setting a benchmark for international partnerships in education. As Prof. Muganga concluded, “This is more than a partnership; it’s a shared commitment to shaping a brighter future for higher education in Africa.”
