Five arrested as police bust notorious burglary ring in Kinawataka

Kampala, (UG):- The Police at Kinawataka Police Station are holding in custody five notorious suspects arrested over the weekend in connection with rampant criminality in Nakawa Division, Kampala City.

Acting on intelligence, a joint operation of security authorities was carried out with the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and local leaders in Katoogo and Kinawataka zones after a case of burglary and theft at Kinawataka police station.

“Police on December 14, 2024, registered a case of burglary and theft at Kinawataka police station. Acting on intelligence, the police assisted by Uganda People’s Defence Forces and local leaders conducted an operation in the areas of Katoogo and Kinawataka zones leading to the arrest of five (05) notorious suspects,” a police statement read on Monday evening.

The arrested individuals, identified as Ahebwa Elton, Yende Owen, Kisiro Sam, Kabogoza Becham, and Mustafa Adam were captured following a thorough search of their hideout in semi-permanent structures and a host of stolen items were recovered to aid in the ongoing investigations.

These included a flat-screen television, mobile phones, a music hoofer, and marijuana along with materials used for its preparation. “Some of the exhibits recovered were the very items reported stolen,” Police said.

Authorities also raised alarm over the presence of incomplete structures in residential areas, stating they often become hideouts for criminals.

Police Spokesperson ACP Rusoke Kituuma urged local councils to escalate these concerns to relevant authorities, emphasizing the need for stricter construction regulations to curb such threats.

The operation underscores a strong collaboration between law enforcement, community leaders, and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces in ensuring public safety. Police said investigations into the burglary continue as the suspects remain in custody.
