Busia, (UG):- The Territorial Police in Busia have arrested two individuals linked to the illegal possession of government medical supplies following a significant operation on December 10, 2024.
The arrests came following intelligence reports indicating that the Victory Humanitarian Medical Centre had stockpiled government-owned drugs and medical items.
At approximately 5:00 PM, a police team was dispatched to the facility, where a thorough search revealed a substantial cache of assorted government medications and kits.
Investigators, accompanied by Scene of Crime Officers (Soco), meticulously documented the scene and collected witness statements. All items recovered were confirmed to be property of the Government of Uganda.
During the operation, authorities discovered that the Victory Humanitarian Medical Centre was operating without a valid license from the Medical and Dental Practitioners Board.
This violation led to the arrest of Abbo Catherine, a nursing officer managing the facility. Under interrogation, she disclosed that the centre was owned by Odwori John, a laboratory assistant employed at Majanji Health Centre III.
John was apprehended on December 12, 2024, and both suspects now face charges on two counts: unlawful possession of government stores and practising medicine without a license.
The two were presented in court on Monday, December 16, 2024, where their pleas were recorded. Efforts to locate additional accomplices are ongoing.
In a statement, IP Mugwe Johnson Moses, Acting Public Relations Officer for Bukedi South Region, condemned the actions undermining government health programs.
“We appeal to individuals engaging in such lawless acts to cease immediately, as failure to do so will result in arrest and prosecution,” he said.
