Kampala, (UG):- The Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) party President, Mr Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine has called upon Ugandans to join the party in a blood donation drive aimed addressing the chronic blood shortages affecting hospitals across the country.

In a social media post via his official X account on Wednesday, December 16, Kyagulanyi revealed that the party had recently written to the Uganda Blood Transfusion Services to propose the initiative.

“Recently, the @NUP_Ug wrote to Uganda Blood Transfusion Services offering to organise an event at which we can donate blood to the Uganda Blood Bank. With the chronic blood shortage in our hospitals, it is important that we contribute the little we can to alleviate this situation,” Kyagulanyi wrote.

The donation drive, according to Bobi is scheduled to take place on Thursday, December 19, at the NUP headquarters in Makerere-Kavule and thus, urged the public to participate in this noble cause, emphasizing the critical need for blood to save lives in hospitals.

“Join us tomorrow, Thursday December 19th for this important activity at our Headquarters, Makerere – Kavule,” he said.

The NUP leader’s statement comes at a time when several health facilities across Uganda have reported severe shortages in blood supplies, putting patients’ lives at risk. The call also reflects NUP’s continued efforts to engage in activities aimed at addressing pressing social challenges.

This initiative, according to scholars, is expected to boost the reserves of the Uganda Blood Bank and highlight the importance of community participation in supporting the country’s healthcare system.
