The President of the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF), Dr Patrice Motsepe, is in East Africa this week on a crucial visit to the three nations set to host the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024.
Motsepe’s tour, which began on Thursday, December 19, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, will continue to Nairobi, Kenya, and Kampala, Uganda, concluding on Friday, December 20.
Dr. Motsepe’s visit is part of a series of meetings with government officials, football leadership, and the local organizing committees in the three host nations. These engagements are aimed at ensuring the successful preparation and execution of the upcoming CHAN tournament.
The meetings will also include site visits to key football infrastructure, including stadiums and training grounds, which are currently undergoing renovations to meet the standards required for the competition.
The CAF President’s tour follows a detailed inspection by a CAF delegation in November, where various facilities such as stadiums, training sites, hotels, and airports were assessed for readiness. This inspection laid the groundwork for the improvements being made now in preparation for the tournament, which will showcase the continent’s top football talent.
The 2024 CHAN, which exclusively features players based in Africa, is expected to be a historic event, marking the first time the tournament will be co-hosted by three countries. Dr Motsepe’s visit underscores CAF’s commitment to ensuring the success of the tournament and providing the necessary support to the host nations.
