Mbale, (UG):- The Office of the NRM National Chairman (ONC) yesterday, Friday, December 20, 2024, hosted a landmark event, welcoming His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to the Bugisu Youths Symposium.
This grand occasion, held on the final day of the President’s wealth creation tour, marked a significant moment for the region’s youth, as they directly engaged with the head of state for the first time in 22 years.
Thousands of enthusiastic youth from across the Bugisu sub-region thronged the symposium to listen to President Museveni, fondly referred to as Jajja wa Bazzukulu.
The President’s address covered crucial themes such as mindset change, wealth creation, and the NRM’s development agenda. The event highlighted the growing interest and readiness of Bugisu’s youth to participate actively in government programs and contribute to the nation’s progress.
H.E. Museveni’s generosity stole the spotlight when he announced a monumental donation: 10 acres of land valued at 6 billion Ugandan shillings, earmarked for youth projects in the region. The gift symbolized his commitment to empowering the young generation and supporting their ambitions.
Hajjat Hadijah Uzieye Namyalo, head of the ONC, and her team were lauded for their extraordinary organization of the event which will remain a landmark moment in the region’s development journey.
The symposium’s resounding success was a testament to her leadership, especially given the region’s history of hosting less impactful events. For years, Bugisu had been viewed as an opposition stronghold. This event, however, flipped the narrative, signalling a new chapter of collaboration and progress for the sub-region.
“It was a successful event after a lot of failed events and rallies in the sub-region, people had started seeing the region as a home of opposition but Hajjat Hadijah Uzieye Namyalo made a statement which will last forever,” an attendee remarked.
“This symposium has left an indelible mark on the youth of Bugisu,” another participant remarked. “It’s proof that we can be a part of shaping our country’s future, with support from the government and our leaders.”
The Bugisu Youths Symposium is now being celebrated as a pivotal moment, fostering unity, optimism, and a renewed sense of purpose among the region’s young people.
