Nairobi, KE):- The Speaker of the National Parliament of Kenya, Rt. Hon. Moses Wetang’ula is mourning the loss of his beloved mother, Mrs. Anne Nanyama Wetangula.
Nanyama, according to Hon Wetang’ula passed away on Tuesday evening around 9 PM in Bungoma County, Kenya, at the age of 91.
The Bamasaba community, spanning both Kenya and Uganda, is deeply saddened by her passing. Tributes have poured in from leaders and well-wishers, highlighting her significant role in the family and her community.
His Highness Jude Mike Mudoma, the Umukuka III of the Bamasaba people, extended his heartfelt condolences to the Speaker and his family. “A huge void has been left behind,” he said, while offering prayers for strength and comfort during this difficult time.
Hon. Irene Khainza Manghali, a long-time confidant of the Speaker, also shared her grief, reflecting on the personal bond she had with the late Mrs. Wetang’ula. “I am deeply disturbed by her passing, but I am comforted knowing she leaves behind a remarkable family,” she remarked. Hon. Irene noted that Mrs. Wetang’ula had been battling illness for an extended period and credited her children’s dedicated care for prolonging her life.
According to Milcah, the Speaker’s press assistant, funeral arrangements are underway, and Mrs Wetang’ula is expected to be laid to rest before the end of the year.
Mrs Anne Nanyama Wetang’ula was married to Mzee Wetang’ula Senior and was a pivotal figure in the family, raising Hon. Moses Wetang’ula, who now holds one of the highest offices in Kenya.
The loss comes just months after the Bungoma County Governor also lost his mother, marking a particularly challenging year for families in the region.
The family, alongside the Bamasaba community, continues to mourn the loss of a matriarch whose life was a testament to love, resilience, and family dedication.
