Kampala, (UG):- Ministry of Gender Commissioner for Equity and Rights Mr Mujuni Benard aka Benmark the poet launched his book The Monologue Diary of a Covid-19 Walker at the National Theatre auditorium on Friday, 20th December 2024
He said the book is a compilation of the situation that Ugandans went through during the time when the world was attacked by the pandemic
“The book has a lot of content about the pandemic and highlights some of the challenges that we have as a country that range from health infrastructure, social protection, the economy, lifestyle among others,” he said
He said he used the National Theatre as a place for the launch of the book because he used the contents of the book to produce a theatrical production about Covid 19. “It was both a book launch and a theatre play about Covid-19. We had to fuse the two to bring out the best out of this project,” he said
Some of the actors in the play included poet Peter Kagayi, Allan Odong (The producer) of the play and other actors and actresses
Dr. Henry Zakumumpa, a health systems researcher at Makerere University said the book is a delicious feast of a hundred sumptuous in one serving and it’s a compelling personal account of the covid-19 lockdown in Uganda which grew to his musings on life in general
“Without a doubt, the pandemic had profound impacts on each of our lives. Bernard’s gripping tale of the lockdown in Kampala is told with lively, entertaining imagination,” he said
He added that the book pages are full of scientific accounts of the COVID-19 pandemic and the publication is a welcome addition to the human side of the pandemic
The launch event was officiated by the state minister for children and youth Hon Balaam Barugahara, who promised all initiatives that promote art and culture in the country
