Dedicate your political, professional careers to God – Amuru leaders told

By Sebastian Bogere

Amuru, (UG):- Amuru District Local Government Leaders have been asked to commit their political journeys and professional careers to God in order to help them lead and perform well in their various offices God has placed them into.

The call came during the end-of-year Thanksgiving prayer service held at the district headquarters on Friday, December 20, 2024, in the district Multipurpose Hall located in Amuru Town Council.

Father Martin Agwee, the Vicar General of Gulu Archdiocese who led the Holy Mass on behalf of Archbishop Raphael P’mony Wokorach commended Amuru District Local government for upholding godliness in the running of the affairs of their district local government through organizing the end-of-year prayer gathering.

Father Agwee asked the district leaders to trust in God always and also give Him thanks for the different exploits accomplished by the district leaders this year, citing the example of how God called on King Ahaz from the Bible in the book of Prophet Isaiah Chapter Seven.

He also told the leaders to submit all their plans to God be it political exploits or professional duties because God is the only sovereign being who gives wisdom to perform in such offices.

“It is very important to trust in the way of God because He blesses us while serving other people and our community; because without God, you can do nothing”, remarked Fr. Agwee.

The Vicar also admonished other believers to trust God in all their dealings amidst challenges -for that is the way of faith, and God is faithful to those who trust in him in all situations.

Daniel Ociti, the Chairman LC3 of Amuru Town Council said that he considers it very important to commit his work and political career to God which is why he was very positive to attend this end-of-year prayer gathering.

Ociti said that as local leaders embracing such a program is a sign that as a district, they uphold godliness in their daily dealings.

Micheal Lakony, the Amuru District Chairman said that they found it prudent that rather than throwing a big party to eat, drink, dance and be merry as a celebration gesture for ending the year, they instead chose to thank God and attract more blessings to keep them going, although some sections of leaders were not in support of the initiative.

Lakony however cautioned the district leaders who are seeking to run for political offices in 2026 to avoid the politics of blackmail and ungodly means of winning an election like the use of witchcraft and witch hunts or plots to eliminate the possible opponent saying it is not worth pursuing.

“While I am also going to seek the office of the Member of Parliament come 2026, I am not going to seek it dubiously through plot to kill, blackmail, witchcraft. I shall use my ideologies to seek election and my trust is in God only” said Lakony.

The district Chair also commended the district technical staff and political wing for working hard in the year ending 2024 but warned technocrats who are planning to resign from their offices to seek political journeys in 2026 to first think wisely before they act.

Jennifer Akia, a Christian and Choir member of St. Daniel Comboni Chapel in Amuru district said it is worthy to give thanks to good for his faithfulness and goodness- which is worth doing at the end and start of every year.

Akia explained that such dedication to prayer helps renew our faith in God even when some other things do not go well with people. “The word of God enlightens and illuminates us as we pray and it is important to have a close relationship with God,” she said.

Wesley Akera, a teacher and Christian at Amuru Catholic Parish said that he welcomes the culture of giving thanks to God at the end of every year because it restores both our spiritual and physical energies on the daily tasks we do.

Akera revealed that in such prayers of thanksgiving, it is also an opportunity to ask for forgiveness from God in case of any trespass in both official and other public dealings.
