Masindi, (UG):- Kitara FC delivered a stunning performance on Saturday, obliterating Express FC 7-0 at the Royal Park in Butema in Masindi, marking their biggest win in Uganda’s top-flight football.
Former Express forward George Ssenkaaba was the star of the show, netting a brilliant hat-trick against his old club. Jude Ssemugabi added a brace, while Fred Amaku and David Ndihabwe also got on the scoresheet in the historic victory.
Ssenkaba’s heroics were the highlight of the day, as he tormented his former team with clinical finishing. The striker’s three goals sent the crowd into raptures, and his performance undoubtedly highlighted the gulf in quality between the two sides.
His display was also a personal vindication against a team he had spent time with before making the switch to Kitara.
For Express, things went from bad to worse. In addition to their disappointing loss, several key players were missing due to injuries and other issues.
Ronald Andabati (ankle), Mafumu Dauson (malaria), Wasswa Emmanuel (hamstring), Rashid Kawawa (left hip joint), and Geofrey Gagganga (university engagement) were all ruled out for the match, leaving the team thin on options.
Unconfirmed reports suggested that Express players had a turbulent build-up to the match, with an early Saturday morning arrival in Hoima following a Friday night travel.
A source close to the team also hinted that CEO Ashiraf Miiro had addressed the squad before their departure from Kampala, informing them of further delays in salary payments, which may have added to the team’s woes on the pitch.
The massive win lifts Kitara FC to ninth place in the table with 17 points, while Express FC remains in sixth, now just two points ahead of their opponents.
Unfortunately, the Red Eagles, who had already suffered a 2-1 defeat to URA the previous week, were unable to recover from their recent struggles.
The loss leaves Express winless in two games under Kaddu’s guidance, with their position in the top six now under threat.
They remain in sixth place with 19 points, but with rising teams behind them, their future in the top half is uncertain.
Kitara will next visit Wakiso Giants on January 5 at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium, while Express will host Bright Stars on January 2 at the newly revamped Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo.
