Iganga, (UG):- At least 1021 patients suffering from various illnesses from different villages in Iganga District received free treatment in a four-day medical camp organized by Faith Babies’ Home, an NGO which advocates for vulnerable children.

The camp which was conducted in partnership with specialist doctors from America and Iganga General Hospital ran from Tuesday, December 17, to Friday, December 20, 2024.

The camp was conducted in different places of Nabitende Sub County, Namungalwe town council in Iganga district and at the organization’s premises in Iganga municipality.

Faith Babies’ Home Director, Ms. Grace Kaziba said they organized the camp to cater for vulnerable people to access necessary treatment as a way of giving back to the community, adding that it is done on an annual basis. She was concerned with the overwhelming number of patients who were still flocking from different areas to access treatment even on the last day of the camp.

“As we closed the last day at our offices in the evening time, the patients were still flocking from different areas as they kept learning about the event,” Kaziba said, adding that most of the patients were suffering from ulcers, pressure, diabetes, sickle cells and malaria.

She hailed her partners and God for the successful event as they managed to test them and give the necessary treatment with the large stock of drugs they had.

Patients of all categories of people were worked on and they commended the organizers citing having challenges to access the necessary treatment in the hospital due to lack of funds.

Asanat Kagoya, a resident in Kasokoso zone in Iganga municipality and was a beneficiary in last year’s medical camp said she had an itchy eye which made her lose proper sight but got relieved after receiving treatment and some drugs.

She added that “since last year’s medical camp, I was waiting for another opportunity as I couldn’t get recommended drugs in both private and public health facilities given the high cost of drugs in such facilities.”

Amina Namukose who came along with her four children for a medical checkup says she trusted the expertise of American doctors to identify the illness and administer recommended drugs as well as the necessary treatment.
