Hosts Uganda booked their place in the semi-finals of the ongoing TotalEnergies CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) CECAFA qualifiers with a dominant 5-0 victory over Kenya.
The emphatic win saw Uganda finish top of Group A, ahead of Tanzania, after a comprehensive performance at the tournament.
Uganda’s attacking force was spearheaded by James Bogere, who opened the scoring early with a well-taken penalty.
He then added a second goal before the break, while Isima Mulala Magala also found the net in the first half, giving Uganda a commanding 3-0 lead at halftime.
After the break, Bogere completed his hat-trick in the 58th minute, capitalizing on Kenya’s defensive lapses.
Substitute Simon Wanyama sealed the victory with a powerful strike in the 78th minute, further adding to Uganda’s goal tally.
Uganda’s dominant display means they will now face Somalia in the second semi-final match on December 24, 2024, while South Sudan will take on Tanzania in the other semi-final.
The finalists will earn automatic qualification for the TotalEnergies CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled to take place in Ivory Coast next year.
