Tragic motorcycle crash claims life, injures another in Budaka

Budaka, (UG):– A serious motorcycle accident that occurred along the Mbale-Tirinyi Road in Budaka District resulted in one fatality and left another individual critically injured on Monday afternoon.

The incident took place around 12:40 PM and involved two motorcycles: a black UDM 436J Baja Boxer and a red UDW 309C Bajaj Boxer.

Preliminary reports from the Budaka Police Station indicate that the accident occurred after the rider of the UDM 436J made an abrupt U-turn without due caution, leading to a collision with the second motorcycle. The two motorists were both travelling towards Mbale city.

The police identified the deceased as 40-year-old Musinda Simon, a resident of Nandere village in Kibuku District, who sustained fatal injuries in the accident. Despite being quickly transported to Budaka Health Centre IV, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Musinda was riding along with Tegule Geoffrey, a lay leader at Idudi Church of Uganda and resident of Namajja village, Naboa sub-county. Tegule was rushed to Budaka Health Centre IV and remains hospitalized in serious condition.

“Following the incident, police officials, including PC Akite and PC Musobya Paul, promptly visited the scene to conduct an investigation” the Bukedi Regional Police Commander ACP Mwanga Moses Kitiyo confirmed in a statement.

Kitiyo added that the body of the deceased was transferred to the mortuary at Budaka Health Centre IV, where a postmortem examination was performed.

Both motorcycles involved in the accident have been secured at Budaka Police Station pending further inspection and investigation. The police have urged all road users to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
