Budaka, (UG):- Budaka Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Hajjati Nabukalu Nusura Juma and her driver Khalid Waiswa Sunday perished in a fatal accident after the vehicle in which they were travelling collided with a trailer at Musita in Kakira along Jinja-Iganga Highway.
The incident occurred at around 4:30 PM near Kakira, when her white Toyota Double Cabin (UG 4803C), travelling towards Jinja, collided head-on with a trailer (KDH 025V).
Hajjat Nabukalu who is also the Chairperson of Busoga Women Leaders Association (BWELA) was en route from Nawansinga Village in Bulamagi Sub-county in Iganga District to officiate at a function which was also attended by Namayingo Resident District Commissioner, Mr David Kulaba Isabirye.
In the vehicle with her was her driver, Khalid Waiswa, who was rushed to Imperial Hospital in Iganga for treatment, and later confirmed dead.
Eyewitness reports indicate that the impact of the collision left Nabukalu’s vehicle severely damaged. Despite immediate efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries just moments after the accident.
The bodies were taken to Jinja Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem. The wreckage of the ill-fated vehicles were towed to Magamaga police station for further inspection.
Busoga leaders mourn Nabukalu
The Minister for Presidency, Hon Milly Babalanda mourned the tragic loss of the Deputy RDC describing her demise as a painful to take by the RDC Secretariat. “I announce the heartbreaking news of the death of the Deputy RDC Budaka, Hajjati Nabukalu Nusura, who has died in an accident this evening at Musita,” Ms Babalanda posted on her official X account on Sunday evening.
“So painful a loss at this time. She will be dearly missed for her dedicated services to the motherland. May her soul rest in eternal peace and condolences to family, friends and the Presidency at large!”
Hajj Faruk Kirunda, the Deputy Press Secretary to H.E. the President described the fallen Deputy RDC as a tested, trusted, focused and straightforward cadre of the NRM. “She was appointed because of her unshakable zeal for the party and nation,” Kirunda posted.
“She was well-known at all levels right from when I was very young, hearing about her when she was in the local council structures where she served without blemish. She has died in the line of duty and deserves to be celebrated and emulated in her ways. Innalillahi wainalilei rajoon!”
Uganda’s Ambassador to Russia, Mr Moses Kizige has described Nabukalu as a humble person. “I nurtured her into politics. She has been humble. We shall miss her,” he said.
Major Martha Asiimwe, the head of the RDC Secretariat in Uganda described the death of Hajjat Nabukalu, as a significant loss to both the presidency and the nation.
Palisa Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Majid Dhikusooka said Nabukalu will be laid to rest on Monday (December 30, 2024) in Jinja City Muslim Cemetery at 4 pm.
