Kabale, (UG);- Residents and local leaders of Muyebe Parish, Buhara Sub-county in Kabale District have opened up with fresh details as they expressed disbelief over a recent horrific viral video in which a 35-year-old maid was filmed torturing a 4-year-old girl in Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.
The suspect, later identified as Precious Tumuhirwe, was consequently arrested and transported to Kampala on Sunday for brutalizing a child in her boss’ house on the night of December 27 in Kikoko Zone, Kirinya Division in Kira Municipality.
The LC Chairperson for Muyebe Parish in Kabale District, Mr Gad Kukundakwe speaking to a Ugandan local newspaper expressed that Tumuhirwe, an orphan who lost both parents about 14 years ago, is renowned for being hardworking in farming.
“She was well-behaved during her school years at Muyebe Primary School, where she was also involved in entertainment activities. She was a multi-talented girl back in primary,” Kukundakwe told the publication in an exclusive interview on Monday, a day after Tumuhirwe begged the girl’s family and Ugandans to forgive her.
In Tumuhirwe’s village, residents say “being the firstborn of five, she cared for her family.”
Buhara Sub-county councillor Annette Kabagambe revealed that Tumuhirwe worked as a waitress at her Friends Hotel in Kabale Town.
“She was a trustworthy and hardworking employee, often kneeling to serve customers, which is unusual for people in their community. Tumuhirwe was a very adorable worker who loved her job with utmost hard work,” Kabagambe added.
Residents like Daisy Ayebazibwe said “although Tumuhirwe had a reputation for excessive drinking and occasional abusive behavior under the influence, she was otherwise known for her good character.”
“We are still shocked about what we see in the video clip. Can you imagine that she was a loving woman?” Ayebazibwe remarked before she condemned the incident.
The leaders appealed to parents to be vigilant over their children when under the custody of domestic workers or maids.
After her arrest, Tumuhirwe, who is currently detained at an undisclosed police station in Kampala, claimed that the child fell on her own and that she had not beaten the child even after she was captured on CCTV camera brutalising the child.
When approached for an interview, Tumuhirwe’s stepmother identified as Precious Tumuhirwe declined to comment as she closed her house to our arriving reporter.
