Nairobi, (KE):- Uganda’s President, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Thursday officially opened the new Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium in Siaya, Siaya County in Kenya. He was accompanied by Kenya’s William Ruto Samoei and Former Prime Minister of Kenya Mr Raila Odinga.
“I had the honour of officially opening the newly constructed Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium in Siaya County, Kenya this afternoon,” Mr Museveni posted Thursday evening via the official President’s account on X, formerly Twitter.
“I also watched a good football match between Gor Mahia of Kenya and Kitara Football Club of Uganda. The game ended in a 9-8 penalty shootout victory for the hosts,” the Ugandan leader added.
Speaking to the young people at the Stadium, Museveni emphasized to the youths to “enjoy playing football but always remember that the pathway out of poverty is to engage in the four sectors of wealth creation(commercial agriculture, Industries, services & ICT).”
“I thank His Excellency William Ruto and The Rt. Hon Odinga for inviting me.”
On his part, President Ruto emphasized the importance of such facilities in fostering collaboration and integration among African nations. “We are going beyond our boundaries to promote multinational sports competitions so as to deepen cross-border harmony, boost talent exchange and enhance regional integration,” Ruto said.
“Later, watched a thrilling match between Gor Mahia and Uganda’s Kitara Football Club as we wound up the Piny Luo Cultural Festival celebrations. Congratulations K’Ogalo for outclassing The Royals,” he added.
The state-of-the-art stadium, with a capacity of 20,000 seats, is expected to host a range of multinational sports competitions aimed at boosting cross-border harmony and talent exchange.
