Jinja, (UG);- The Prime Minister of Busoga Kingdom Dr Joseph Muvawala Tuesday delivered a comprehensive end-of-year message where he highlighted the Kingdom’s achievements, challenges, and strategic priorities for 2025.
While addressing the people of Busoga on Baba FM, Baba TV, Bridge FM, and Busoga Royal hosted by Ibrahim Shamiru Byakika, Dr. Muvawala began by honoring those who passed away in 2024, recognizing their invaluable contributions to the Kingdom.
He expressed gratitude to individuals and organizations that supported Busoga’s development, calling them vital to the region’s progress.
Fighting Corruption and Strengthening Governance
Taking a firm stance against corruption, the Prime Minister warned District Service Commissions against extortion. He reiterated the Kingdom’s zero-tolerance policy and announced that the Kyabazinga will convene a meeting with all public officers at Igenge Palace on January 3, 2025, to address governance and accountability.
Resolving Land Disputes and Infrastructure Issues
Dr. Muvawala highlighted a legal dispute with the Madhvani Group over 600 acres of Kingdom land, where the group pays a mere UGX 13,300 per acre annually. Terming the deal exploitative, he assured stakeholders that the matter is being addressed in court.
He also ordered the immediate eviction of illegal occupants on Kyabazinga Stadium land in Bugembe and instructed petrol station owners near schools and in Bukuubo to submit approved building plans or vacate. Butchers were directed to relocate to the newly constructed abattoir, a move aimed at improving sanitation and organization.
Addressing Agricultural Challenges
Turning to agriculture, the Prime Minister acknowledged the plight of sugarcane farmers struggling with low prices. He assured the region that the Kingdom is working on strategies to stabilize prices and ensure farmers receive fair compensation.
Transforming Education
Dr. Muvawala celebrated the transformation of Busoga University into a public institution, marking a significant milestone for the Kingdom. Lectures are set to begin soon, signaling a new era for higher education in the region.
Engaging Political Leaders for Development
The Prime Minister announced plans to meet all Members of Parliament from Busoga to discuss pressing regional issues. This initiative aims to foster collaboration and unified efforts to address challenges and propel development.
Recognition of National Service
Concluding his address, Dr. Muvawala thanked President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for reappointing him as the Executive Director of the National Planning Authority for another four years. He pledged continued dedication to both the Kingdom and the nation.
A Vision for 2025
The Prime Minister emphasized the Kingdom’s commitment to governance, economic empowerment, education, and land rights as key priorities for the new year. His address set a hopeful tone for 2025, outlining a roadmap for transformation and growth for the Kingdom of Busoga.
