Police probe brutal murder of 13-year-old girl in Nebbi

Nebbi, (UG);- The Territorial Police in Nebbi District are investigating a tragic incident in which a 13-year-old girl was attacked and killed while returning with friends home from a social event after New Year celebrations.

The incident in which Jovian Yikparwoth lost her life occurred on the morning of January 2, 2025, in Atyak Village, Kalwang Parish, Nebbi Sub-County.

West Nile Regional police spokesperson, Mr Collins Asea, confirmed the incident saying the teenager was attacked and killed by three unidentified individuals.

“Her body was discovered in a nearby cassava garden following a search initiated by her brother and the local community,” Asea stated as quoted by Monitor, a local publication.

Asea said police have launched an investigation into the incident, and one suspect has been apprehended after a canine-led search led officers to his shop.

Meanwhile, Jovian’s body has been transported to Nebbi Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Mr Asea assured the public of a thorough investigation and justice for the victim and her family. “We appeal to the public to remain calm and provide any information that may assist the investigation,” he said.
