Lyantonde, (UG):- The Ugandan journalism community is grappling with the sudden loss of Risdel Kasasira, a celebrated journalist who tragically passed away today in a fatal car accident on the Mbarara-Masaka Highway.

Kasasira, known for his fearless reporting and unwavering dedication to the truth was travelling from his village in Kashari, Mbarara District to Kampala when the tragic car crash happened.

Police say Kasasira was accompanied by his wife and child at the time of the incident, but, fortunately, his wife and child survived, though details regarding their conditions remain limited.

“A woman and a child who were in the same car are alive,” Traffic and Road Safety Police spokesperson Michael Kananura said Friday evening.

A long-serving journalist with The Daily Monitor, Kasasira’s loss is deeply felt across Uganda. “Risdel Kasasira set a benchmark for journalistic excellence in Uganda. His integrity, bravery, and commitment to the truth were unmatched,” said a colleague from The Daily Monitor.

As an investigative journalist with over 17 years of experience, Kasasira had earned a reputation for his dedication to truth and his commitment to bringing critical stories to light.

He was a cornerstone of Ugandan journalism, renowned for his coverage of political affairs, human rights, and security issues. His work not only informed the public but also held power to account.

Kasasira’s passing leaves an irreplaceable void in the media fraternity. His colleagues and peers describe him as a beacon of ethical reporting, whose work often inspired younger journalists to pursue the craft with diligence and responsibility.
