Kampala, (UG);- The management, staff, students and leadership of Victoria University are in a celebratory mood after being crowned the Best Private University in Uganda for the year in the 2024/2025 Uganda Responsible Investment certification and Uganda Development Champions Awards.

The University, owned by the Ruparelia Group, was recognized by Public Opinions for being the leader in promoting artificial intelligence, student-centred learning, paying taxes, supporting productive corporate social responsibility, combating bureaucracy, and supporting the actualization of the NRM government programs.

Victoria University has been the best in swift response to the actualization and deepening of the NRM government projects and programs. Through its corporate social responsibility, the university has vehemently supported the publication and dissemination of the achievements of President Museveni and the NRM government.

VU and Artificial Intelligence

Prof Muganga, a leading the artificial intelligence innovation campaign in Uganda is the first to technically explain artificial intelligence in Uganda and has gone the extra mile to create awareness on AI, including writing books and articles about AI.

Muganga believes that the actualization of artificial intelligence will help to promote cyber security, combat corruption, and tackle organized criminal activities. He says AI has the potential to play a transformative role in Uganda’s development.

By leveraging AI technologies, Muganga is optimistic that Uganda can accelerate its economic growth, improve the quality of life for its citizens, and enhance its competitiveness in the global market.

For instance, AI can be applied in various sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture, and finance to improve efficiency, productivity, and decision-making. In healthcare, AI-powered diagnostic tools can help detect diseases more accurately and quickly, while in agriculture, AI-driven precision farming can optimize crop yields and reduce waste.

Victoria University Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Lwrence Muganga

The President of Uganda, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has himself stated that AI can help Uganda address some of its pressing development challenges, such as poverty, unemployment, and inequality.

For example, AI-powered chatbots can provide citizens with access to essential services and information, while AI-driven analytics can help policymakers make data-driven decisions to address poverty and inequality.

The President further stated that AI can also create new job opportunities in fields such as data science, machine learning, and robotics, which can help reduce unemployment and stimulate economic growth. Overall, the strategic adoption and deployment of AI can help Uganda achieve its development goals and become a more prosperous and equitable society.

The survey to determine the best private university in the promotion of artificial intelligence and digital education was conducted by Public Opinions, targeting 10 private universities that were nominated. Victoria University was voted the best by Ugandans across the country.

Victoria University will hence be inducted in the Prestigious Annual Uganda Development Champions Journal for Certified Responsible Investments, a high-profile journal distributed to government officials, members of Parliament, security chiefs, religious leaders, and members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

The Uganda Development Champions Award is a prestigious award that recognizes outstanding contributions to Uganda.
