Iganga, (UG):- The national vice chairman for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Capt. Dr George Mike Mukula Friday donated a batch of healthcare assortments to Iganga General Hospital to boost healthcare services in the Busoga health facility.
The assortments which were delivered to the administration of the facility included 50 mattresses, two stretchers and 10,000 syringes which will also be distributed to other government health facilities depending on demand. The lobby was spearheaded by the Iganga Healthcare Association.
The development comes after the December 1, 2024 marathon that was organized by the Iganga Healthcare Development Association to solicit money for buying some items to support healthcare service delivery in Iganga government health facilities.
This was in fulfilment of one of the pledges made by the chief runner Capt. George Mike Mukula to support the facility of Iganga General Hospital and other facilities in the district citing their tremendous support to a number of people given its geographical location on the highway. Mukula had earlier delivered wheelchairs and stretchers on December 7, 2024.
At the function which was attended by a number of stakeholders to hand over the items to hospital leadership at the facility, the association patron who is also the NRM chairperson for Iganga district Hajji Abubakar Walubi commended Capt. Mukula, adding that the assortments will be distributed to various government health facilities.
“Iganga hospital will get 7 mattresses, health centre IIIs will get 3 mattresses each and the selected five health centre IIs will get 2 mattresses each. The syringes will be distributed in all health centres in Iganga, while the two stretchers will remain at the general hospital,” Hajji Walubi said before beseeching for better use of the items.
The Deputy RDC of Iganga, Mr Kato Dauda asked the in-charge officers of health facilities and leaders to monitor the proper use of the assortments donated and avoid destroying them.
“Keep this thing well and caretakers should avoid destroying it because it will help our people right from the general hospital to lower health centres. I asked our leaders to take part in ensuring good use of these things,” Kato said before asking people to always support developments intended to help the community.
The Iganga Hospital Medical Superintendent, Ms. Anna Matte said many are the challenges in the general hospital but they are working closely to restore the good image of the general hospital. She said the ministry has supplied them with some equipment like the ultrasound scan, warmers and other things.
This publication understands that Iganga General Hospital will be painted by GM Sugar Factory and it is among the pledges made by Capt. Mukula.
The function was attended by a section of Sub County chairpersons in Iganga, some leaders of the Iganga healthcare association, leaders in the line of health as well as the public.
