Kampala, (UG):- The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Chairman and President of Uganda, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has called upon all party leaders and supporters to actively participate in the upcoming electoral voters’ register verification exercise as part of the roadmap for the 2026 General Elections.

In a statement addressed to NRM leaders on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, Mr Museveni emphasized that the process begins with the verification and update of voters’ registers from January 20 to February 10, 2025.

“The registered voters’ names will be displayed at every polling station in Uganda so that we all go and check to ensure that our names are on that register,” the National Chairman of the ruling NRM party noted, adding, “This is the verification to confirm that your name and the names of the people you know in your area are on the register.”

The President urged NRM leaders and supporters to also check for deceased persons on the register and ensure their names are removed.

Additionally, Museveni highlighted the need to include new voters, particularly young people who have turned 18 years of age and appealed to NRM leaders to take the lead in mobilizing communities to participate in the exercise.

“I am, therefore, sending out this appeal to request all of you, the leaders and all the supporters of the NRM, to go out in the period indicated above, check and ensure that your names are on the registers, and also help in updating those registers by removing the dead and adding the names of the new voters those who have turned 18 years of age,” he said.

“Additionally, you should check the names of the people who died, so their names are removed from the register. How about the young people who have turned 18 years of age? They should also be registered,” Museveni urged.

The national voters’ register verification exercise is a crucial step in preparing for the 2026 elections, aimed at ensuring the integrity of the electoral process and the inclusion of eligible voters across the country.

The exercise is also intended to allow for easy application for such transfer; and enable registered voters to check and confirm that their particulars are correct and appear on the Voters Register at the voting locations that they indicated during registration.
