Authorities in Kiryandongo district have launched a 530 million Uganda shillings road construction project in Diima and Nyamahasa sub-counties under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development-Additional Funding (USMID-AF).
The project launched on Tuesday 7th January 2024 is the 11 KM Diima-Mutunda road which links three sub-counties of Mutunda, Nyamahasa and Diima to Kampala-Gulu highway and business centres in Bweyale and Karuma.
While addressing the people who had converged for the launch at Diima Market in Diima Sub-county, Mr Anselm Kyaligonza the Chief Administrative Officer warned TEB Technical Services and Contractors LTD; the contractor against shoddy work and asked him to ensure observance of bills of quantities and use of high-quality materials.
He also advised the members of the community to desist from buying fuel meant for the construction of the road since it would compromise the quality of work. “This is your road. You have been complaining that the government has forgotten you. Now the road is here, you have to protect it.” Said Kyaligonza.
Edith Aliguma Adyeri the District Chairperson asked the community to take part in monitoring and supervision of the road works to ensure quality work is done. Aliguma added that infrastructure development in the District such as road construction is meant to promote service delivery and improve the livelihood of the people.
Dan Muganga the RDC Kiryandongo urged the community to take advantage of the roads being constructed to improve their livelihoods and fight poverty.
“Do not have poor homesteads yet you have good roads. People should not come from far to buy your produce because we have constructed good roads for them; you can do it among yourselves and money remains here.”
Muganga told the community. Muganga also cautioned the community against destroying road embarkments to make bricks.
The construction of the road is expected to be complete by March so as to facilitate economic activities such as agriculture, industrialisation and trade.
