Iganga, (UG):- A section of leaders in Busoga have pledged to support the First Deputy Prime Minister of Uganda and Minister for East Africa Affairs Rt. Hon. Alitwala Rebecca Kadaga in her political endeavours as the country gears up for the active electoral processes this year and next year.

Kadaga who is also serving as the 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female) at the ruling National NRM’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) and also the Woman Member of Parliament for Kamuli district is expected to contest for the same positions.

This comes after Uganda’s speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among earlier declared to contest for the CEC position currently being occupied by Kadaga, and this has since caused suspicion that some leaders in the Sub-region are conniving to overthrow her from CEC.

Speaking at Iganga Municipal Council Primary School on Tuesday, January 07, a function organized to steer up mobilization ahead of the presidential visit to the region, the chairperson of LCV Iganga district Mr Gabula Ezera condemned people who are fighting Kadaga and pledged total support for her.

“We condemn people who are fighting development and they don’t want Busoga to win. As long as I live, I want to assure you of my total support for you and also pledge to move everywhere in my wheelchair to converse for your support,” Gabula assured Rt. Hon. Kadaga.

Gabula raised a number of challenges affecting the district that include the stunted Busoga University, the unrealized projects like the construction of Iganga Central Market, elevating the district hospital to a regional referral status, the industrial park and the construction of the Iganga-Bulopa-Kamuli road where he asked fellow leaders to rally locals to avoid targeting compensation but accept the project and demand in the process.

In her remarks, Ms Kadaga assured the people of Busoga that she is committed to all issues affecting Busoga and asked people to avoid trusting people who are not born in the region with mandates, citing that such people are not with Busoga at heart.

“You find someone coming with a convincing language to take leadership in Busoga but such people cannot locate even where their grandparents were buried. Such people cannot understand where we have brought Busoga from,” Kadaga said.

She assured the people of Iganga and Busoga that issues concerning the market, and other issues that they are going to join effort in demanding by pressing the minister for local government and other line offices to ensure that Iganga gets a central market.

It should be remembered that recently while at a public function, Minister Kadaga accused some politicians in Busoga and others serving in Busoga kingdom of conniving to decampaign her. She said in an audio that went viral on social media that she is ready for everything saying she will face off with them.

The function was attended by political leaders, religious leaders, and ghetto youths who reported to Minister Kadaga on unnecessary arrests by Iganga central police, saying, “Mama Kadaga we are being detained at police on cases of vagabond. Police hide in this case because the case of idle and disorderly was scrapped,”

In response, Kadaga instructed the district police commander Iganga to stop saying that, “the case of idle and disorderly was scrapped and I don’t expect you to arrest these youths on this. If it has been happening, I am instructing that you to stop it. We should give liberty to these youths to live the life which they understand.”
