Kampala, (UG): Kawempe North Member of Parliament, Hon Muhammad Ssegirinya aka ‘Mr. Update’ is not yet dead, according to medical doctors at Lubaga Hospital.

Contrary to Thursday morning reports that the outspoken legislator had breathed his last from the Kampala-based hospital where he had been admitted, the National Unity Platform President, Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has clarified that he is not yet confirmed dead but his organs have shut down and is struggling for life.

“CLARIFICATION: According to the doctors, Hon. Ssegirinya MUHAMMAD is brain dead, most of his organs have shut down but he is not yet declared dead,” Kyagulanyi posted via X, quoting an earlier post he made pronouncing the Kawempe North legislator dead.

“When the mother was told that, she immediately announced his passing. Our teams are on the ground monitoring the situation, as we all PRAY FOR A MIRACLE,” the former Presidential candidate added.

Bobi Wine’s statement aligned with that of Speaker Rt Hon Anitah Among who speaking on Ssegirinya’s condition said the doctors attending to him say his organs are failing, but his heart is still active.

“After consulting with the doctors, we have been informed that our brother, Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya still has a pulse, confirming that he is alive. I ask you all to pray for him. May the Almighty Allah have mercy on him and grant him healing!,” Rt Hon Among posted via her official X handle.

The former Kawempe Lord Councillor has been in and out of the hospital both within and out of the country undergoing treatment ever since his health worsened upon release from Kigo prison.

Ssegirinya often said that the origin of his sickness started at the government prison facility where he and fellow MP Allan Ssewanyana (MaKindye West) were jailed for more than a year, over ‘trumped up’ murder charges in connection to deadly attacks that claimed over 20 lives in the Masaka Sub Region.

The two were released on bail in February 2023 but Ssegirinya has since been undergoing treatment in various facilities in Uganda, Kenya and the Netherlands.
