Sironko, (UG):- Residents of Kikobero Sub-County and neighbouring areas in Budadiri East, Sironko District, have stopped utilizing Simu Pondo Health Centre III, a fully refurbished facility, due to the poor state of access roads.
This issue came to light during day III of the joint monitoring visit by district leaders.
Jane Nalyaka, a resident, blamed the district leadership for failing to repair the roads leading to the health facility, discouraging many from seeking services there. She noted that it is safer and more convenient to visit Muyembe Health Centre IV than to struggle with the poor roads to Simu Pondo.
Fred Nangoli, another resident, expressed frustration with the district’s unfulfilled promises to improve the roads. He said the last time a grader was seen in the area was in 2006, leaving the community feeling neglected and underserved.
Budadiri East MP Sasaga Isiah described Simu Pondo Health Centre III as one of the best-equipped facilities in the district, with necessary amenities, including staff quarters. However, he lamented that it remains underutilized due to the poor road network and the absence of medical personnel at the facility.
Nambozo Florence, the Sironko District Woman MP and State Minister for Karamoja explained that the roads were meant to be improved under the Oil Seed Project, which faced delays. She criticized technical officials for dishonesty and a lack of commitment but urged residents to support government initiatives.
Meanwhile, Budadiri West MP Nandala Mafabi directed the district team to provide the road plan and project contract for the facility by Saturday’s close of business to facilitate a value-for-money audit. He also encouraged residents to remain vigilant during project implementation to ensure accountability.
