Kampala, (UG):- Victoria University’s Basketball team, VU Crocs, is on the verge of getting promoted to the National Basketball League (NBL) after a dominant 77-52 victory against UMU Flames in the second leg of their promotion playoffs semi-final on Sunday.
The game was thoroughly dominated by Victoria University in the first half finishing off at the break with a 43-15 lead. UMU had just 5 field goals in the entire first half and this was mainly down to the very good defense that Victoria University side applied.
In the second half, Victoria University had already gotten the job done and it was about seeing the game throughout which they managed to do. Offensively, Victoria University was doing what they always do and that is upping the tempo and attacking the basket with pace.
Cedric Alema shone as the standout performer for VU Crocs, posting a game-high 27 points, while Joseph Kumba contributed a crucial double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, solidifying VU’s dominance.
The emphatic win builds on VU’s earlier narrow 56-51 triumph in the first game, giving the Crocs a dominant 2-0 win in the series.
In the other semi-finals, Rezlife Saints advanced in their promotion quest with an impressive 71-49 win over UPDF Tomahawks. The Saints are now also just one win away from clinching their place in the NBL.
The stage is set for a thrilling conclusion to the promotion playoffs as both Victoria University and Rezlife Saints inch closer to their dreams of competing in Uganda’s premier basketball league.
