Kampala, (UG):- Gift Shoko, the newly appointed Managing Director of Equity Bank Uganda (subject to regulatory approval), is a seasoned banking professional with exquisite experience in multi-regional commercial banking and leadership.
Shoko’s career has spanned various markets across Southern and Eastern Africa, making him a valuable asset to Equity Bank’s ambitious growth and innovation agenda.
With over 26 years of experience in the banking sector, Shoko is set to steer Equity Bank Uganda into a new era of innovation and customer-centric growth.
Here’s a brief profile of the incoming Managing Director:
Banking Career
Shoko began his career at Nedbank Zimbabwe, where he completed a Graduate Management Training program and advanced through several senior management roles.
He later served as the Group Chief Operating Officer and Group Chief Executive Officer at Trust Holdings Limited (THL), a diversified financial services group listed on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange. During his tenure, he successfully restructured the organization and led its re-listing on the stock exchange.
Shoko also held the position of Chief Executive Officer at Commercial Bank of Africa (Tanzania) Limited for five years, driving the bank’s growth and expansion. Most recently, he served as the NCBA Group Director for Regional Business, overseeing banking subsidiaries across East Africa.
Education & Professional Training
Shoko’s academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Business Studies and Computer Science degree from the University of Zimbabwe. He also holds a Master’s in Business Administration (Banking and Finance) from CIMA in Nicosia, Cyprus.
In addition to his academic achievements, Shoko is a certified Executive Coach and a Genos Emotional Intelligence Coach, skills that complement his transformative leadership style.

Shoko is widely recognized for his expertise in corporate governance, having served on various boards in Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Malawi.

As Managing Director, Shoko is expected to prioritize enhancing customer experience and expanding Equity Bank Uganda’s presence in the market.
