Kampala, (UG):- The National Unity Platform (NUP) party President, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine Thursday unveiled Hon Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi as the new deputy president for Buganda region in an acting capacity.
Kivumbi, who is also the Chairperson of the Buganda Caucus in Parliament replaces MP Mathias Mpuuga (Nyendo-Mukungwe) who was last year suspended over his alleged involvement in the controversial Shs500 million service award during the time he was Leader of Opposition in Parliament (LoP).
The Butambala County MP was unveiled Thursday, January 16, 2025, during a press conference held at the party headquarters in Makerere, Kavule.
In his acceptance speech, Mr Kivumbi vowed to majorly focus on mentoring the young people to see that the plan to remove the dictator is at play. “As a deputy president of Buganda, I will reach where Kyagulanyi can’t reach and I will be where he can’t be,” he said.

At the same function, Bobi Wine who heads NUP’s National Executive Committee also introduced Ms Jacklyn Jolly Tukamushaba as the new deputy president for Western Uganda, filling the void left by the late Jolly Mugisha who died last year.
Similarly, Harriet Ageno was unveiled as the new party’s Secretary for Policy, succeeding the late Toret Akecha, Rev. Dr. Ben Byamugisha Butumbwire- Secretary for the Elderly, Benjamin Katana as NUP representative on the National Consultative Forum, Mr Julius Maganda as Secretary for Persons With Disability (PWDs) and Mr Bwambale as Secretary for Youth, Western Region.
Bobi Wine clarified that all the appointees will hold their positions in an acting capacity until June 2025 when the party intends to hold the delegates conference.
“Today the National Executive Committee of the @NUP_Ug took yet another significant step and approved the appointment of various leaders in Acting Capacity to different roles, up to when we hold the Delegates’ Conference. I congratulated these leaders, charged them to remain true to the values of our liberation struggle and tasked them to work hard to advance the cause,” he posted via social media platform X.
