Sironko Superintendent of Works interdicted over irregularities in roadworks

Sironko, (UG):- Sironko District Superintendent of Works, Mr. Andrew Wasukira, has been interdicted following allegations of irregularities in the execution of road works under the Uganda Road Fund program.

The interdiction, communicated in a letter dated January 14, 2025, by the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of the district, Mr Kirenda Nelson stems from findings of a joint monitoring exercise conducted by various stakeholders including Minister of State for Economic Monitoring Beatrice Akello and Budadiri West MP Hon nandala Mafabi which identified numerous anomalies in road works carried out since the 2021/2022 financial year.

In the letter, one significant issue which stood out involved road works in Mafudu Sub-County where materials donated by Hon Nandala were allegedly accounted for by Mr Wasukira as having been provided by district resources.

This action, according to CAO Kirenda was a violation of the Uganda Public Service Standing Orders (2021). “In light of the above, I am compelled to invoke the provisions of Section (f-s) 8(b) of the Uganda Public Service Standing Orders and Regulation 38 of the Public Service Commission Regulations (2019),” Kirenda wrote.

“Accordingly, I hereby interdict you from your duties as Superintendent of Works/Assistant Engineering Officer of Sironko District Local Government.”

The interdiction which takes effect immediately aims to facilitate further investigations into Mr. Wasukira’s conduct as a public officer.
